Toe protection makes all the difference
The main difference between safety shoes and work shoes is the safety toe cap: When it comes to safety shoes (EN ISO 20345), a protective toe cap is a must. Work shoes (EN ISO 20347), on the other hand, come without a toe cap.
Work shoes and boots
Even without toe protection: Work shoes must still have a protective feature. This can be an anti-slip sole, antistatic properties, or a weatherproof membrane – these criteria are defined by DIN EN ISO 20347.
Who wears work shoes?

Safety shoes and safety boots are mainly worn in areas with a high risk of injury. There isn’t a direct recommendation for specific industries. What matters when wearing safety shoes at the relevant level is the risk of foot injuries due to mechanical, electrical, chemical or thermal hazards.
