Be seen, stay safe! Whether you’re working on the tracks, in road construction, aviation, logistics, or forestry – visibility is essential in many jobs. With fluorescent colours and reflective stripes, high-visibility clothing keeps you safer, especially in poor light or bad weather conditions and in hazardous environments. You’ll find a wide selection of high-vis workwear for every need and weather in the Strauss online shop – from protection class 1 to 3, UV workwear, winter high-vis collections, and high-visibility clothing in team colours. Even though visibility is the top priority, function and comfort shouldn't be overlooked at work either. With the following info and tips, you’ll quickly find the right high-visibility clothing for your needs.
High-visibility clothing 1x1
A quick guide to key terms:
DIN EN ISO 20471
High-visibility clothing is part of your personal protective equipment (PPE) and must be certified in accordance with the European standard EN ISO 20471 (previously EN 471 until 2013). This ensures all requirements for high-visibility clothing are met. That includes materials in bright fluorescent warning colours and highly visible reflective strips that make sure you’re easily seen in all light and weather conditions, even from a distance.
Protection classes 1 to 3
Because risks vary from work environment to work environment, EN ISO 20471 is split into three categories: Protection class 1 to 3. The minimum area of high-vis elements on the garment will differ depending on the category. What matters for the classification is the risk posed by moving traffic:
Class 1: Low risk. Protection class 1 high-vis clothing is rarely worn on its own in professional settings in Germany – if at all, it’s usually combined with higher classes.
Class 2: Medium visibility. Class 1 is for environments with an increased level of risk, such as areas near roads with a speed limit of up to 60 km/h.
Class 3: High visibility. Class 3 offers the highest visibility and is used in areas with speed limits above 60 km/h or with no speed limits at all, such as motorways or railway zones.
Every piece of Strauss high-visibility clothing is certified in accordance with EN ISO 20471:2013. Our range covers everything from class 1 to a huge selection of class 3 high-visibility protection – in both yellow and orange. With the e.s.motion 24/7 collection, we also offer high-vis clothing in typical industry colours, like red /high-vis yellow, blue / high-vis yellow and anthracite /orange.
You’ll find the relevant class listed in each product description. You can also use the online filter to select a specific protection class for your workwear under EN ISO and high-visibility options.
How is each protection class achieved?
There are two options: You wear a single garment that meets the required class. Or: You combine two high-vis items, which are certified together to achieve a higher class. Check with your employer or your professional association to find out which class of high-visibility clothing is required for your job. If you’re unsure — for example if your workplace varies — always go for the higher class.
What is what? Fluorescent and retro-reflective material
The hallmark of high-vis clothing is its signal colour, also known as a warning colour. These include fluorescent yellow, orange-red, and red. Fluorescent colours don’t occur naturally and stand out in any environment. When light hits them, they reflect part of it back.
But reflective strips are also needed to guarantee visibility in the dark or bad weather. These are made from retro-reflective material, which not only bounces light directly back to the source but also creates a glowing effect for the whole garment.
High-visibility clothing for all weather
Visibility in poor conditions is the top priority for high-vis workwear. Whether it’s a jacket, high-vis vest, or trousers, Strauss high-vis workwear doesn’t make you compromise on function, comfort, or even style. High-vis and weather protection go hand in hand. You’ll find a wide range of products, from high-vis jackets, sweatshirts, T-shirts and polo shirts to high-vis trousers – with the right choice for every budget and every job. Sizes range from XS to 5XL, and our softshell jacket e.s.motiongoes up to 6XL, and is available in a variety of colours.
Summer, sun, safety – high-vis clothing with UV protection
In summer, there’s another risk at work: UV radiation. Anyone working outside is exposed to more sun every day, raising health risks. High-vis and sun protection are easy to combine: The e.s. high-vis functional hoody long sleeve UV, certified to class 3, and the e.s. high-vis functional zip T-shirt UV, certified to class 2, both provide factor 50+ UV protection — the perfect choice for warm days. Pair with the e.s.motion 2020 high-vis shorts, class 1, for a striking summer look. Safe!

Important tips for high-vis clothing
High-vis clothing can save lives! It is essential to properly use and take care of your high-vis workwear and vests to ensure you're always visible:
Make sure you buy the right size and fit - shortening high-vis trousers is usually not allowed, as it could affect the visibility of the reflective strips on the leg.
Remember thatyour protection will be reduced if you wear your high-vis jacket open. Stay safe with an extra base layer - whether that's a T-shirt, polo shirt, long sleeve, or pullover of the same protection class.
Dirt can limit visibility. Clean your high-vis clothing regularly and check the care label before washing your trousers, jackets, sweatshirts, etc.
Large or poorly placed logos can affect the level of protection. Our print and embroidery service gives you expert advice on logo placement and the best finishing techniques for your workwear.
Regularly check your high-vis clothing for damage. Only clothing and vests in perfect condition can provide maximum visibility.
